Top 5 Films of 2013

By Ashley Bowden, ’14

With several amazing films released this past year it was a struggle to figure out which 5 won the race. I hope you enjoy the ones I have chosen and please comment telling us what you believe were the best movies of the year!

1. Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was the number 1 movie of the year because to me, it was perfect. I felt it followed the book extremely well and overall it was intense and left me wanting more. I saw it four times and I would still see it over and over again.

2. Pacific Rim

I believe that Pacific Rim was the second best movie this year because it was epic. I loved the concept of the movie and felt they really captured things very well. I liked the slight humor it added as well and the emotional side it tied in. I still bounce in my seat in excitement every time. Plus, the shirtless scenes aren’t half bad.

3. Iron Man 3

This 3rd Iron man was spectacular. It had humor and action and everything. I downgraded it slightly because it did have a few slow parts, but it’s in the top 5 of the year because I love the Marvel movies and this was the best Iron Man yet and the ending still gets me going wondering how things will work out for him in “Avengers 2.”

4. Monster University

After waiting several long years for a sequel to “Monsters, Inc.,” I believe this movie made it into the top 5 of the year before it was such an event. It wasn’t fully what I expected and I felt it could’ve been different or slightly better, but this movie was still funny and cute and to me number 4 of the year.

5. Frozen

I finally saw Frozen and it was adorable and funny. I loved the idea of the story and the way it played out. It’s number 5 because, as much as the songs were cute, I felt the singing was overdone. I mean, who honestly sings that much? The snowman Olaf though definitely made the movie; he was hilarious. Frozen, if you don’t mind a lot of singing, is a must see.
