Music is a huge part of life and I was happy being able to create the top 5 of 2013. There are so many great artist and songs so there are top 5 artists of 2013 and top 5 singles of 2013 listed below. Comment after reading to let us know what who you thought was the best artist this past year, or what what song you felt dominated the charts!

Top 5 Artists

1. Marina and the Diamonds

By far for me she was the top artist this year. Born Marina Lambrini Diamandis, she is best known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds. Although there are many who may not know who she is, she still is an upcoming, must-listen artist. This year she was traveling parts of the world on tour for her album “Electra Heart,” which features her song “How To Be A Heartbreaker,” which was covered on Glee’s “Feud” episode. Marina is gorgeous and talented and my number one of 2013.

2. One Direction

I can see you rolling your eyes on the other side of the screen! People are either going to love or hate One Direction. For those who hate, most of the time you just don’t understand. This year, One Direction completed their Take Me Home tour and announced their 2014 world Where We Are tour. They also released their movie “This Is Us” and released their third album, “Midnight Memories.” This band is doing so much and really making their mark across the world.

3. Fall Out Boy

After a four year hiatus, this band deserves a slot in the top 5 artists of 2013. I am loving the linked music videos that are telling a story and the songs are equally amazing. I constantly check YouTube looking for new songs and new videos to add to the story. I love this band and their sound is perfect and I love to blast it in the car.

4. Ed Sheeran

Do I even need to explain why he is in the top 5? Ed Sheeran has a lovely voice and looks good too. He is in the top 5 because I find a lot of his music calming and inspirational. Ed Sheeran writes a lot of songs, like Little Things for One Direction. He deserves a spot in the top 5.

5. Demi Lovato

I find Demi Lovato incredibly inspirational and her music delightful. I love her songs and she really sings them well and puts so much emotion into her singing. She sings the song “Let It Go” that was a major part in the movie Frozen. Demi is an amazing singer and just like the others deserves this spot in the top 5 artists of the year.

Top 5 Singles

1. “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Miranda Lambert

Is there really a debate for this one? This song really gets me and I love it. There was no doubt in my mind that this was going to be my number 1 song of the year. With all the hateful comments towards homosexuals, this song provides strength and support. I love the message it sends and the video gets me every time.

2. “Demons” by Imagine Dragons

Another inspirational and beautiful song with a video to match. I love the sound this song has to it along with it’s message and this was another no brainer for me when selecting the top 5 singles of 2013.

3. “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker

I am not a country fan, but this is one of the handful of songs I do enjoy. Darius Rucker has an amazing voice and this song gets me bouncing and swaying in my seat as I drive down the road with my stereo as loud as it can go.

4. “Story Of My Life” by One Direction

I know, I know, it’s another One Direction thing. But have you listened to this single? I love the song and the video really is perfect and a little emotional. This song really gets me going and really was a huge kicker getting me excited for the album, which was the best thing I’ve ever listened to, by the way. So yeah, this is in the top 5!

5. “Still Into You” by Paramore

Not going to lie, the top 5 singles of the year list was hard to come up with, and the number 5 slot really took me a while, but in the end Paramore won with the single “Still Into You.” I love their sound and although I hated this song at first, but after a while, it grew on me and I can’t stop listening to it loud and dancing around to it and the video was pretty cool to watch as well.
