Top 10 Musical Artists of 2014

Sam Smith

1: Sam Smith

This should come as no shock to anyone. However, who would’ve guessed that someone from London’s voice would travel all the way to America and have such an impact on the way modern music sounds? Sam Smith’s voice is distinctive from most male volcalists, and will always amaze me. With his first song that got him recognization, “La La La”, he just kept getting better and better as each song was released. 2014 was a tremendous year for Sam Smith with his first apperance at the Grammy’s and the release of “Stay With Me,” which peaked at number one on the Pop Charts. Along with that number one hit, he also released “I’m Not the Only One,” and “Latch.” I am very excited to see what kind of masterpiece he will create in 2015.

Ed Sheeram

Ed Sheeran

2: Ed Sheeran

With his heart melting song, “Thinking Out Loud,” Ed Sheeran will always be one of my favorites. He has been making girls’ hearts beat a little bit faster since 2011, when “Lego House” was thankfully released, which came along with an amazing music video featuring the great Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. 2014 was for sure a huge year for Ed Sheeran. He played during the 2014 Victoria Secret Fashion Show, and during the BMI London Awards, he won the 2014 Pop Song Award, for his songs, “Everything Has Changed” and “Lego House.” 2015 will only allow Ed Sheeran to raise up higher in the charts.

3: Taylor Swift

Even though she begin her journey as a country singer with her relatable songs “White Horse” “Fifteen” and “Love Story,” Taylor Swift seems to fit more comfortably in the pop music genre. With “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off,” even more young teenage girls adore her and idolize her. Taylor Swift seems to be one of the only girls in pop music that does not violate herself and make herself look bad, like Miley Cyrus has in the past few years. Although Taylor Swift’s newer music may not be as appealing to my ears as it is to most, I still have to give her a spot on this chart because let’s be honest, she is one of the most respected and most popular country, and now pop, singers out there today.

4: Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an all time favorite band of mine, who shockingly still keep making hit songs that everyone loves. Maroon 5 is known for “She Will Be Loved” and “Moves Like Jagger” which had just about everyone singing along and jamming out in the car. With their new hit “Animals,” which was released in 2014, and reached number one on the Billboard Pop charts, Maroon 5 seems to be making a comeback. I cannot wait to see what kind of heart warming or crazy songs Maroon 5 will make in 2015.

5: Jason Aldean

One of country’s most adored singers, and also one of mine, is becoming one of the most recognized country singers of this generation. Jason Aldean has had twelve number one hit songs, including “Dirt Road Anthem” and “When She Says Baby.” Jason’s 2014 hits were “Burnin’ It Down” and “Just Getting Started” which quickly rose up the charts. I think 2014 was a big year for Jason, however, what 2015 has in store for him is a mystery, but with the roll he is on, I can see it being another huge year for him.

6: Drake

I’m sorry, but if you don’t like Drake then you’re crazy. Drake’s music is my weakness. His music is so relevant to life, especially as a teenager. Drake has been making guys jealous of his smooth ways for the past five years, and he still keeps making amazing music. With “Trophies” and “0 to 100/ The Catch Up”, Drake didn’t seem to upset his fans this year, and I am sure his clever lyrics will keep him one of my favorite singers for a long time.

7: Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan

No one could get any more perfect than Luke Bryan. He is a family man, an amazing country singer and pretty comical, especially during his presence during the 2014 Country Music Awards. Even though Luke Bryan did not technically release any new songs in 2014, his songs from 2013, “Crash My Party”, “I See You”, and “Roller Coaster” were some of 2014 biggests hits on the Country Charts and even the Top 100 charts. Luke Bryan is one of country’s all time best entertainers and will never cease to amaze me with each new song he will release in the future.

8: Brett Eldredge

Although all of Brett Eldredge’s most known songs were released in 2013, 2014 was when they started to become more and more popular on every radio station that you flicked on. Brett’s biggest hits, “Beat of the Music” and “Don’t Ya,” have such a positive vibe that it’s hard to get sick of them. “Don’t Ya” was given the number 1 on country charts for this rookie. Oh, and you can’t forget his heart melting song, “Mean to Me,” which right now is one of my favorite songs. Due to his hard work and dedication, Brett was awarded with the “New Artist of the Year” during the 2014 Nashville Country Music Awards.

9: Nick Jonas

I’m telling you, he will make a comeback with or without his brothers! Even though Nick only released one song in 2014, “Jealous,” it was still a huge hit for him. This upbeat song makes it impossible to not sing along, at least for me. You also know it is a very popular song when you’re in your car and “Jealous” is playing on 92.3, 93.1, and 97.9 all at the same time. So, 2015 is about to be a big year for Nick Jonas. I am glad to finally see one of the Jonas Brothers stepping up and making their own music!

10: Florida Georgia Line

With their first song released, “Cruise,” I knew that Florida Georgia Line was going to be big. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, two guys who are pleasing to the eye, have a positive energy that makes you want to get up and dance. 2014 was a big year for Florida Georgia Line, with the release of “Dirt” which seems to be always playing on the country stations.
