If you’re a bookworm, Goodreads.com, a site launched in 2007, is the website for you.

Goodreads is the largest website for readers and book reviews . On Goodreads, readers are able to keep track of all the books they’re reading, want to read, and have read. Visitors can also write book reviews of their own and enter in the many book giveaways.

Otis Chandler was a former employee on a dating website and a trained engineer, and his wife, Elizabeth Chandler, trained as a dancer and worked as an editor and writer. They figured out that they both shared a vast love for books and knew thousands of others did, too.

On the site, CEO and co-founder Otis Chandler, says, “You can find your next favorite book. And on this journey with your friends, you can explore new territory, gather information, and expand your mind.”

Searching for books or an author is very easy. If a visitor can’t find the book they are looking for, they are given the option to add it manually as a “new title”. If the book is already on the site, members can immediately rate it, write a review, record the date they read it, and put it on any of their Goodread’s shelves, which are collections of books they’ve read or want to read.

The Goodreads app, which you can download free on any Apple device, assists the user as well, giving users the ability to search for books on the run.

As of September 2013, the site reports 20 million members, 570 million books added, and 24 million reviews.

The really fun and interactive thing about being a Goodreads user is the choice to create discussion groups and join them. One group that I’ve been part of for a long time is the “Writing Group” There are 236 members in this group and sometimes just watching all the different conversations going on allows me to really get a feel for what Goodreads is all about. This website brings all sorts of book lovers together and we learn from each other and help one another grow in our own little world.
