Delayed Start Policy in Effect This Year

By Abdullahi Moallim, ’15

The delayed start is a new policy started this year by the Auburn School Department. It was started to make sure students would get in as many school days as possible so students and staff would not have to make up days in the summer. It’s meant to accommodate the dangerous travel conditions on winter mornings that often dissipate after the sun comes up and public works has time to prepare roads.

For the two hour delayed start, buses will run their routes just two hours later. However, the Lewiston Regional Technical Center bus will leave Edward Little at 9:35 a.m. The school will not be open until 9 a.m. for those student who are dropped off. Students will not have mentors if there is a delayed start on a Wednesday. Classes will be shortened so students will attend all classes.

Junior Katelyn Valliere said, “It throws off my schedule in the morning, since I take the bus.”

Junior Dylan Aspinal said, “I like the delayed starts, because I can be more rested and ready for school.”
