Catching Fire Catches Audience Attention

By Ashley Bowden, ’14

Perfect. That one word sums up “Catching Fire,” the second installment in “The Hunger Games” series. The excitement for this film has been building up since the release of the first movie and they gave us exactly what we wanted, more. The actors and actresses did a phenomenal job capturing the personalities of their characters and bring the book to life, which was what I was happiest about. This movie captured the book better than the first film did. It got in those small details and it was exactly what I pictured when reading the book.

Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) reprise their roles in the second installment in The Hunger Games series.

did an amazing job presenting the love growing between the two. All the emotions the book wanted you to feel, this movie just puts them over the top.

There are funny scenes, action scenes, love scenes, and sad scenes and every single time it made me want to bounce in my seat because I was so excited and glad that they were able to put this together and really do it right. I was so excited I kept slapping my friend’s arm during the film.

If you didn’t go to opening night you need to get down to the theater and buy a ticket because I promise you that you will not regret it seeing this movie. The only frustrating part is the ending, but not because it was bad, because it was like the book and makes the audience want the next movie to start right then and there.

I can’t wait for third and final movie to see how they wrap this series up, hopefully staying as faithful to the third book as they did with this film.
