Of Fortune and Fame Return with Strong Split EP

By Trevor Laliberte

Of Fortune & Fame/The Traditional – Split EP

★★★★½

Of Fortune & Fame are putting out music for the first time in a year, and that in itself is a reason to be excited for this release. The Syracuse-based pop-punk group established themselves last year with their EP, “Perspective.” The band’s high energy songs are flavored with catchy lyrics as well as plentiful vocal and guitar harmonies.

Of Fortune and Fame and The Traditional weave together an excellent new release.

Almost everyone listens to music, whether it’s their favorite blues jam or their dance and party playlist, but some of us prefer to listen to live music, right in front of us. I’m one of those people, and I know plenty of others at Edward Little who enjoy their favorite songs played right in front of them. On Sept. 27, I got my first taste of Maine’s local music with a free show at Naral’s.

During the summer, I was one of the ten lucky winners on Goodreads.com to win a free copy of Jeff Hart’s first book, “Eat, Brains, Love.”

The book is written from the points-of-view of two characters: Jake Stephens, a senior in high school who turns into a zombie, and Cassandra, a teenage psychic who works with the secret part of the government that hunts down zombies.

Class Presidents have High Goals for School Year

By Danica Nadeau, ’15

The senior and junior class presidents of Edward Little High School both have ideas to help raise money for their classes. Both presidents love being able to see their classes work together and be successful.

Rakiya Mohammed, the senior class president, is planning on hosting a dodgeball tournament, along with a winter carnival to try and help raise money for her class this year. Also, because the senior class will not be holding the handball tournament like they have in the past, Mohammed says, “The idea is still kind of up in the air for other classes if they want to take it.”

iPads: iCant Stand Them

By Ashley Bowden, ’14

I’m not quite sure what the school department was thinking when they decided to get rid of our laptops in favor of getting iPads for the students instead. I thought we wanted to better the education of the students, not give them a better distraction.

Last spring, Gov. Paul LePage announced that MLTI had signed a contract with HP to provide computers to the Maine school districts. It was also stated that schools had the option to use other computers, but if they were more expensive than the proposed HP laptops, the state wouldn’t cover the extra cost. Simply put, with the lack of support for the out-of-date MacBooks, Auburn couldn’t afford to keep them and needed to get something new.
